The passing of a legend

Olive Gaines

It is with much sadness that I have to inform Abbey members of the passing of one of our club legends.

The Gaines family have been a part of Abbey from the day dot and instrumental in the building and running of Abbey Rugby club since 1956.

You could always find Olive sat in the back bar, actually at the bar in the left-hand corner, generally with Dot as I remember, on a Friday, Saturday & Sunday evening with her bottle of Pils and a Tom thumb cigar on the go .

Olive passed away peacefully on Sunday 3rd May in her care home and our thoughts are now with her family at this very sad time

Olive you were very much a part of my growing up at Abbey rugby club, even coming away in 1977 as part of our colts touring party. You have been a part of so many people’s lives at Abbey and we will all miss you but still have so many happy memories.

R.I.P Olive
