We are a very friendly and competitive squad of boys who love to play rugby and be with their mates from all over Reading. The squad is made up of boys with many different backgrounds from 8 different schools in and around Reading, we welcome everyone. Currently we have the squad numbers to put out two teams – no matter your ability, if you turn up, you will play.
Our ethos is to bring out the very best in every player, both in playing rugby but also to grow as outstanding young men.
We have a very full schedule of matches lined up, this includes the “OBB league” where teams from all over Berkshire, Hampshire and Buckinghamshire are played as well as local club friendlies and those from competitive teams from farther afield.
Playing shirts are supplied to all boys, all you need are boots, shorts, socks and a gumshield.
We play both home and away games, and a number of tournaments throughout the season.
The Coaches
The coaching team is led by David Robinson and Dave Anfield who both have a lifelong love of the game and despite their age, still turn out for Abbey senior teams. They are supported by Paul Moreton, Adam Bodimeade and Paul Davies. All coaches and the team manager are parents as well as club volunteers and they have undergone RFU skills coaching, safeguarding and are all DBS checked.
Training and Match Details
The U16s squad train on Wednesdays at Abbey from 7 to 8:30pm.
Matches are on Sunday and sometimes under the floodlights on a Friday evenings.
Get Involved
We want our players, parents/carers and coaches to remain lovers of rugby for the rest of their lives and give back to the sport what they have gained over the years. The Club is a volunteer club. Officers, coaches, managers and parents who help out every Sunday do so on a completely voluntary basis, without them there would be no club. If you are able to support in any capacity then contact the team manager either at training or email through the website.
Player membership
New players are always welcome. Please contact the Team Manager by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting roles and messaging here, if your child would like to attend.
