"The Toughest Team We've Played In 2 Years" says Chinnor 3's Coach
Despite losing by a substantial margin of 58 points to zero, there were some superb moments of quality from the Abbots in their home match against a Chinnor side who today played their first game of the season which ran for the full 80 minutes. The best team won, there's not arguing that but the scoreline isn't the only thing to discuss here.
Rather than detail all 10 tries and 4 conversions from the visitors, I'd rather focus on the extremely impressive aspects of today's game.
As has become a hallmark of this season, the forwards were extremely clinical at set pieces. Line outs and scrums are our team's strong points and that was certainly the case today. Martin David Collier's leadership here has been critical to their success. Of those performers, Matt Simmons and Matt Douglas carried the ball extremely well and caused real problems while Josh Beale continued his sensational start to the season defending with strength and precision.
A new partnership of the evergreen Iain Marsh and the youthful Chrissy Munce in the half backs worked really well and we played with real structure today. The centre partnership of Jonathan Edward & Adam Penney impressed with the former being nominated as Man Of The Match by the visiting coaches.
Notable debuts on the wings from Rob Mcquaide and Patrick Lound carried the ball really well and are great additions to the squad.
Dick of the Day has to go to Ollie Charlton who managed to get himself an early birthday card (of the red variety) for descent although both sets of coaches agreed that this was really harsh.
The score line genuinely didn't reflect the game and the head coach from Chinnor was quoted as saying "You're the toughest team we have played in 2 years. You've got some great young players here!" The work we are doing in training is paying off and the philosophy that Will Waring, Martin David Collier & Myself are trying to create is coming together slowly. We need more numbers up every week if we are going to improve but there are green shoots. Let's work hard to get up and keep improving.
