Abbey RFC men have completed 4 weeks worth of training. We have followed the RFU guidelines with groups of 5 and players having to register to attend training.

I have been very impressed with the attitude shown by the players and they have made the whole return to training easier by following the measures we have put in place to make training as safe as possible.

Training has lasted 40 minutes per group and consists of a mixture of skills and fitness. With the RFU road map only at stage B, 40 minute sessions have worked extremely well as the players knowing that the session will not drag on for 90 minutes and that has meant the sessions are short and sharp with the intensity and effort shown by the players as extremely impressive.

A special thank you must go to Steve Pawlett and Dave Drake who set up all the safety measures before training to allow Luffy and myself to just focus on training. Steve and Dave will be the 1st XV managers this season and are getting to know the young squad we have!

I am very pleased to announce George House as 1st XV Captain and Jake Leach as Vice Captain. Chris Munce and Matt Fearn will be the Abbots Captains. A thank you must go to Will Bevan who has stood down as 1st XV Captain to just focus on playing for the coming season.

If you would like to get involved with rugby, please contact Luke Harding (07709042531 or on our social media platforms. We welcome players of any ability and we have an extremely friendly and welcoming set of players.

Players, keep up the great work and we will hopefully see some rugby back soon at Abbey RFC!
