1st XV Captain and Vice Captain Announcement.

With Will Bevan stepping down as 1st XV Captain last week, we are delighted to announce that George House will Captain the 1st XV and Jack Leach will be Vice Captain for the 2020-21 season.

George House:
"It is a huge honour to be asked to captain our great club. He may be small, but Will Bevan has left some huge shoes to fill and I'll be looking to learn as much as I can from the likes of him and other past captains like Sam Hallet and Mike Beckly as the season goes on. I am also really looking forward to working with, and would like to congratulate, Jake Leach and Chrissy Munce\Matt Fearn, who have been appointed 1XV vice captain and 2XV captains respectively. Building a strong sense of belonging and togetherness across the senior sides is a big focus of ours going forward and I know that these guys will work tirelessly alongside me to make that happen.

In terms of the season going forward, we still seem to be a way off from getting to play rugby but that hasn't stopped the coaching team of Luke, Luffy and everyone behind the scenes from organising and putting on exciting (and blooming tiring) fitness sessions to keep us on our toes! It's our responsibility as players to do what we can and I'm seriously impressed by the effort I've seen from the lads so far (especially Iain Marsh, who at the age of 73 is still destroying us in the fitness tests)! Luke and Luffy have some great ideas moving forward and I can't wait to be a part of making them happen.

I'm really looking forward to seeing everybody again but until then stay fit, stay safe, and I'll see you at the bar at Rosehill soon. First jug's on me!"

Jake Leach:
Since starting at abbey at the beginning of last season, the guys have welcomed me with open arms, so I am really pleased to have been offered this role to help George, Luke and Luffy to lead the team and to build on the successful parts of last season. We have a really talented bunch of players and I’m really excited to see what we can do when the season starts. I’m sure we will make the most of all the hard work everyone has been doing in the off season and we will see that translate into wins and points on the board.
